A new dress code policy at a Delaware County school district has been rescinded days after it went into effect, after a student protest escalated into violence.
WPVI reported that the Southeast DelCo School Board had an emergency meeting on Wednesday night to discuss the issue. The meeting comes soon after a Tuesday morning student protest that grew out of control, leading to fights and arrests at Academy Park High School.
Hundreds of parents and students attended the school board meeting. Some parents argued against the ban on behalf of their children, citing issues ranging from not being able to suddenly afford new clothing for their children to children with anemia who need to stay warm.
The initial ban on hooded sweatshirts and hats came after a school board meeting on Oct. 27, and was intended to prevent students from hiding their faces.
The board voted to rescind the new bad, as long as students self-govern and keep their hoods down during class.
