Montco Special Olympics gets a big surprise
The group will receive $100,000 thanks to a crowdsourcing charity campaign.
Special Olympics Montgomery County got a $100,000 surprise on May 1.
The organization, which conducts training and Olympic-styled competitions in 18 sports for about 1,200 people with special needs, received the donation after getting more votes than two other groups nominated by NRG employees in the power company’s spring crowd-sourcing charity campaign.
“This $100,000 donation is thrilling,” Scott Otterbein, manager for the Blue Bell-based Montgomery County Special Olympics, said in a statement. “Our leadership team will have the resources to grow our local tournaments into the future and we so sincerely appreciate the recognition and funding from NRG Gives.”
