An 11-year-old boy who had been riding a dirt bike was fatally wounded in a double shooting Friday evening in the city’s Oxford Circle section, police said.

Police responded just after 6:30 p.m. to a report in the 1500 block of McKinley Street and found the wounded boy, who had been riding a dirt bike with a 14-year-old boy.

Police took the younger boy to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where he was pronounced dead at 6:58. He had been shot in the neck and also had a compound bone fracture in one of his arms. Police at first weren’t certain if he had been shot or had been injured in an accident, but doctors confirmed the gunshot wound.

The teen, who suffered gunshot wounds to his right arm and right ankle, was taken by private vehicle to Jeanes Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

A witness told police a single shooter was last seen running away on McKinley toward Castor Avenue.

Less than two hours earlier, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot in the city’s Frankford section, police said.

Just after 5:10 p.m., the man was outside in the 4700 block of Oxford Avenue when he was shot in the head and chest. Police took him to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:45.

Police reported no arrests or other details in that case.
