Google trend data reveal that people are searching for Eagles Super Bowl parade details. But there’s one problem — the big game hasn’t even happened yet.

On social media, fans discussed wanting to know the day of a potential parade in order to request off from work (respect, but let’s not jinx things!). Groups speculated that perhaps a celebration parade would take place midweek, based on what happened the last time the Eagles won the Lombardi Trophy.

In 2018, the Eagles’ Super Bowl parade took place on the Thursday after the game. City offices, courts, and schools were closed for the occasion. But factors that determine when the parade will happen include travel time and weather.

So what do we know about a hypothetical 2023 Eagles Super Bowl parade?

If they win, it will take place in the days after the Super Bowl, which is on Feb. 12. If recent championships are any indication, a route would likely go up Broad Street, through Center City, and along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway like last time.

The formal celebration and parade in 2018 lasted about two hours. Several roads were closed and there was a steady heap of traffic delays — so even if you don’t take off from work, you may be late anyway.

You can also expect a lot of people — like a lot, a lot. In 2018, Inquirer archives show thousands of attendees lined the streets. Some began gathering the night before. Some climbed trees to get a good view. Some fans even scattered the ashes of their loved ones along the route.

It’s unclear what a parade would cost this year, but Mayor Jim Kenney — who’s in his final year in office — has already suggested he’s willing to “blow the doors off this parade.”

In 2018, the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory celebration cost $2.27 million, with both the team and the state chipping in. Expenses included police and employee labor, security costs, and repairs to city equipment and property damaged during the celebrations.

This year, when asked by local media, Kenney said with a laugh, “I’m on my way out, I’ll spend whatever they want.
