Rivers Casino Philadelphia hit with data breach

Rivers Casino Philadelphia recently suffered a data breach that may have compromised some people’s personal information.
Executives at the Fishtown casino discovered that “an unauthorized actor accessed and/or took certain files stored on our computer servers,” spokesperson Jack Horner said in a statement.
He declined to answer questions about whether the breach impacted customers or employees, how many people might have been affected, what specific information may have been accessed, and when exactly the incident took place.
The casino, located on North Delaware Avenue, is mailing letters to people whose information may have been compromised, Horner said.
A New York law firm, Levi & Korsinsky LLP, released a statement Monday saying its attorneys are investigating whether impacted individuals may be entitled to financial compensation through a class-action lawsuit. The firm said people’s names, Social Security numbers, and bank account information may have been compromised.
Data breaches have become increasingly common in recent years, impacting health-care companies, government entities, large retailers, news organizations, and many local companies, including Wawa and Comcast.
In September 2023, the Borgata in Atlantic City was among the 19 MGM hotels that were affected by a cyberattack that disabled some electronic systems. The casino floor temporarily went cash-only — no credit cards or comps — and its reservation and website were down for days.
Around the same time, Caesars, which also has an Atlantic City property, reported that it, too, had been the victim of an attack that may have exposed personal information of its loyalty rewards members. The same hacking group took responsibility for both September 2023 casino attacks, telling Reuters it stole six terabytes of data but did not plan to make the information public.
Rivers Casino Philadelphia declined to answer questions about who may have been behind the recent attack and for what reason.
