Man killed in stabbing at SEPTA station in Center City
The 22-year-old victim was stabbed twice in the chest just before 5:50 p.m. at the Eighth Street station on the Market-Frankford Line, police said.
A 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed Wednesday evening inside a SEPTA station in Center City, police said.
The homicide occurred a short time after a 48-year-old man was wounded in a shooting at a SEPTA station in Kensington.
The 22-year-old man was stabbed twice in the chest just before 5:50 p.m. at the Eighth Street station on the Market-Frankford Line, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
He was transported by police to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:27 p.m.
The victim was on the platform with a woman when he got into a verbal altercation with a man in his 30s or 40s, Small said. The stabbing occurred on the platform or in the stairs leading to the street. Police found the victim outside on the sidewalk, Small said.
The suspect, who is known to frequent the Market-Frankford-Line, was last seen boarding an eastbound train, Small said.
Police reported no arrest in that case.
Just after 5:30 p.m., the 48-year-old man was shot in a stairway leading up to the platform at the Allegheny Station on the Market-Frankford Line, Small said.
The man was taken by police to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
Small said the man told police he was involved in an argument with another man when he was shot.
About and hour and a half later, a 33-year-old man fitting the description of the shooter was stopped on the 3100 block of Kensington Avenue, Small said.
The man, who was carrying a gun and was positively identified by a witness, was arrested, Small said.
