Man killed, wife injured by SEPTA bus in South Philly
The Route 64 bus hit the couple as they were walking around 7 p.m. at Washington Avenue and Front Street, the transit agency said.
A man was killed and his wife was injured when they were struck by a SEPTA bus Friday night in South Philadelphia, authorities said.
The two were walking at Front Street and Washington Avenue around 7 p.m. when they were hit by a Route 64 bus, said SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was transported to a hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, Busch said.
Police said the man and woman were married and the woman was transported to Temple University Hospital.
Philadelphia police were investigating the cause of the accident and SEPTA’s System Safety Division also was investigating, Busch said.
The agency said in a statement: “Our hearts go out to everyone who is impacted by this tragic incident. SEPTA is committed to fully assisting Philadelphia Police in the accident investigation. SEPTA’s System Safety Division is also conducting its own examination of the incident.”
SEPTA added: “The safety of the riders and communities we serve is our top priority. We are committed to full transparency with the public as we learn more from the System Safety investigation.”
