Philadelphians played more Creed than Taylor Swift on TouchTunes machines in 2024

Philadelphians walked into their local bars and queued up their TouchTunes credits to play songs by Morgan Wallen, Zach Bryan, and Shaboozey all year long, recent data reveals. But some other faves, like Taylor Swift, appear to have been snubbed.

City and statewide listening trends were largely aligned with the rest of the country, with some exceptions, the digital jukebox company says in its new report.

Taking a cue from popular music streaming apps, like Spotify and Apple Music, that released their annual listening reports at the end of 2024, TouchTunes analyzed the songs and artists played most across its more than 65,000 machines in bars, restaurants, and other venues across the United States and Europe. We got the local data — and there are some surprises.

Here’s what we know.

TouchTunes’ overall artist and song of the year

The jukebox company’s overall artist of 2024 across machines was Jelly Roll. The company said its song of the year was “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey. Its overall top male and female artists were Morgan Wallen and Taylor Swift.

But those results were slightly different in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia’s results were similar, but different

Philly’s top artist was Morgan Wallen and its top songs were also “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” for contemporary releases and “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton for songs released more than a year and a half ago.

TouchTunes provided a list of top artists, “Frontline” tracks (contemporary songs released in the last 18 months), and catalog tracks (older than 18 months) throughout the region. A spokesperson said those lists couldn’t be combined because it would “skew the data.”

Local favorites, like Taylor Swift and Springsteen, didn’t make the cut

The TouchTunes Philadelphia and Pennsylvania roundups were notably missing artists who have Philly or regional ties and dominated the Billboard charts — like Berks County’s Taylor Swift and Bucks County’s Sabrina Carpenter. It also didn’t include regional favorite Bruce Springsteen, which seems sort of preposterous for a bar jukebox.

In TouchTunes’ overall 2024 listening report, Swift was listed as the most-listened-to female artist while Carpenter was labeled a “breakout artist” and her hit, “Espresso,” was considered a “Top 5 new release.”

So why didn’t they measure up locally?

There’s no clear-cut answer and TouchTunes didn’t say either. It could have something to do with the bars and venues where TouchTunes are located — maybe the Swifties avoid those parts, or maybe they didn’t dole out enough song credits to listen to their faves. And, of course, this data only represents songs selected by TouchTunes users to be played on TouchTunes jukeboxes. It’s entirely likely that Swift and Carpenter songs were already being played, removing listeners’ need to queue up more.

Still, some quintessential bar favorites — like “Higher” by Creed and “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey — managed to make the cut.
