Feed your Christmas tree to a goat at Philly Goat Project’s annual tree-cycling events
Join the Philly Goat Project for their tree-cycling events on January 4, 11, and 18. Recycle your Christmas tree, enjoy hot cocoa, and support local programming while your tree becomes goat snacks!
As the holiday season winds down and the smell of pine needles fades, there’s a unique way for Philadelphians to give their Christmas trees a second life — and it involves some furry friends. The Philly Goat Project is inviting the community to drop off their holiday trees for a good cause during its annual tree-cycling events.
On Jan. 4 and 11, tree owners can head to The Farm at Awbury Arboretum in Germantown or on Jan. 18 to the Conservatory at Laurel Hill West in Bala Cynwyd to drop off their trees, which will be turned into natural food for the group’s herd of goats.
In return, visitors can enjoy a cozy atmosphere by the fire pit with free hot cocoa and the chance to cuddle the goats — a perfect winter outing for the entire family.
The event isn’t just about trees — it’s about community. A suggested $20 donation per tree helps support Philly Goat Project’s year-round programming, including goat walks, literacy events for children, and other free services designed to engage the local community. All donations are tax-deductible, and a receipt can be provided for those who wish to claim it.
The Philly Goat Project’s mission is centered on using goats as a way to connect with and support the community, providing educational opportunities and fostering a sense of environmental stewardship. It’s an innovative solution that turns Christmas trees, often discarded after the holidays, into a valuable resource for these adorable animals.
So if you’re wondering what to do with that tree taking up space in your living room, the Philly Goat Project offers a fun, heartwarming, and impactful way to recycle. Bring your tree, give it a second life, and take part in supporting a local initiative that brings joy, education, and animal care to the city.
