Amy Gutmann hosts a goodbye event at Penn Thursday to thank students as she ends her 18-year tenure as the University’s president She was confirmed on Tuesday as the U.S. ambassador to Germany.

Students lined up inside a large heated tent on Penn Commons - with hot chocolate, apple cider and individually- wrapped snacks - to greet her, and have a selfie taken in front of a large mural of College Hall and the statue of Benjamin Franklin. Gutmann is the longest-serving president in the University’s history and the first woman to serve as U.S. ambassador to Germany.
