Suspect dead in attempted robbery of phone store in Southwest Philly
Gunfire erupted inside Metro PCS store on Elmwood Avenue.
A man who attempted to rob a phone store was shot dead by an employee Monday afternoon in Southwest Philadelphia, police said.
The gunfire erupted just after 4:05 p.m., when an armed man described as in his late 30s entered the Metro PCS store on Elmwood Avenue near 70th Street and attempted a robbery, police said.

The employee, who has a permit to carry a concealed firearm, fired his gun several times and bullets struck the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene by medics at 4:12 p.m, police said.
No other injuries were reported. Both guns were recovered from the scene, police said.
