Saboteur targeting Verizon lines in South Jersey
The damage has caused outages for thousands of customers.
Verizon on Monday offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a saboteur targeting the company’s fiber-optic and copper communications lines in Camden and Burlington Counties.
The company said there have been at least 10 incidents in recent months affecting thousands of customers with outages lasting nearly 24 hours. The sabotage, mainly involving the severing of fiber-optic cables, has occurred in communities such as Cherry Hill, Marlton, Evesham, and Shamong.
Verizon distributed an image of a truck from an incident on April 28 in Cherry Hill. Witnesses said a person exited the truck and then severed a Verizon cable.
Anyone with information about the incidents was asked to call 911 and then Verizon security at 800-997-3287.
