The move of the SS United States to Alabama has been delayed, but the ship's conservancy went ahead with its chartered cruise luncheon for supporters on Thursday.
The ship couldn’t stay in Philadelphia because pier operators wanted to evict the almost 1,000-foot ship and no piers could take in such a large tenant on short notice. The “Queen of the Seas,” was sold and will eventually journey to the Florida Panhandle where it will be made an artificial reef and turned into an underwater tourist attraction.
