Philadelphia makes Target pay workers $22,000 for violating city’s Fair Workweek law

It was the first time the city ordered an employer to pay damages for violating the year-old law, which mandates more consistent schedules for retail and fast-food workers at corporate chains.

Carolyn King poses outside the Target on South Broad Street on Aug. 31. She filed a complaint against Target in 2020, and the City of Philadelphia's Department of Labor issued a $22,000 fine to Target, its biggest Fair Workweek fine to date, for violating the city's year-old Fair Workweek law. The law mandates consistent schedules for low-wage retail and fast-food workers.
