Political Cartoon: Elementary active shooter drill
Daily takes from Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Signe Wilkinson.
While politicians dither about what, if any, laws might curtail America’s endless crazy-guy-with-a-gun shootings, society has quietly taken steps to protect itself. In another great advance for western civilization, our schools are teaching American classics like “duck and cover" in their probably ineffective active shooter drills. Parents are buying their kids bulletproof backpacks hoping that when a shooting begins, maybe one or two fewer kids will be killed. Trying to get on the frontend, Walmart isn’t waiting for the pols to cut the supply chain for gun massacres. Yesterday the retail behemoth announced that they will stop selling ammunition for handguns and discourage their customers from openly carrying guns in their stores. The fact that an American corporation might put children’s wellbeing before profits is a lesson our kids might be glad to learn.
