Cartoon: Carson Wentz reveals nasty side of Eagles fans

All this anger because a 28-year-old multimillionaire decided he wanted to play football for another team after being benched.

I’m sure Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts feels great about all the Carson Wentz bashing he’s seeing from Birds fans.

To be fair, it seems like just a small portion of the fan base has gone off the deep end, describing Wentz as a quitter, sell-out, and the 21st-century version of Benedict Arnold. Unfortunately, it’s that nasty fringe that’s made news recently.

Giovanni Hamilton, a popular 13-year-old Eagles fan who suffers from a rare genetic disorder called Schwartz-Jampel Syndrome, was forced off social media after being cyberbullied for wearing a new Indianapolis Colts Wentz jersey (and breaking the news of Wentz’s new jersey number).

The situation was so bad, Hamilton’s mother posted a message saying Giovanni will no longer engage with commenters and answer messages due to insensitive and hateful remarks he had been receiving, including one tweet threatening to break his kneecaps.

“It’s just too much for anyone, let alone a child who’s just thrilled he gets to wear his hero’s jersey to all his hospital appointments,” Hamilton’s mother wrote.

All this because a 28-year-old multimillionaire had a terrible season (it’s not like the Eagles helped him out much with a supporting cast) and decided he wanted to play elsewhere after being benched and usurped by his rookie backup.

Hate Wentz if you must. Boo him if you want. But can we stop short of threatening a kid — a loyal Eagles fan — who has had to endure and overcome more in his short life than most of us can even fathom? It’s not tough. It’s embarrassing.
