Political Cartoon: Philadelphia gun violence is out of control
Daily takes from Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Signe Wilkinson.
Mayor Jim Kenney and I both check the Philly Police Department’s crime stats every morning to see how the city is doing in the murder department. As of May 9, we’ve had 114 homicides — up from 76 the year Jim Kenney was elected. I sympathize with the mayor, but another task force isn’t the answer. As of April 28 (NYC’s Police stats aren’t as current as ours), New York City had 87 murders — in a city with six times our population (and as many people living in poverty as we have people). Instead of a task force, let’s just do what NYC does. And do it now.
