Joanna McClinton on the importance of inclusive representation in Pa. government | Opinion Video

“It’s truly important that Pennsylvanians are reflected in the makeup of our legislature,” she says.

When Joanna McClinton was first elected to Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives, she was “shocked” at the makeup of the body, and “how few people looked like me.”

In this video op-ed, McClinton describes how — as the first woman and second Black speaker in that chamber’s history — she hopes to open up doors for more women and people of color to assume even higher positions in state government. “It’s truly important that Pennsylvanians are reflected in the makeup of our legislature,” she says.
