Do suburban women like Donald Trump? | Letters to the Editor

The Inquirer asked suburban women to share their thoughts about the former president. Here are some of the responses.

At a rally in Michigan last week, Donald Trump said: “I keep hearing the suburban woman doesn’t like Trump. I think it’s a fake poll. Why wouldn’t they like me? I think they like me a lot.” The Inquirer asked suburban women to share their thoughts about the former president. Here are some of the responses.

I strongly dislike Trump. He has no respect for women, he’s a narcissist and cares only for himself. He is chaotic and rambling and will say whatever he likes — making it up as he goes along. He is obsessed with how badly he’s treated, and will never acknowledge the privilege that being born into huge wealth has afforded him.

Rachael Hunter, Wynnewood

I like Trump. Under the Trump administration, I got a 3% mortgage, and gas was at $2 a gallon. I believe he will keep us from World War III.

Kay McBride, New Hope

I would rather vote for anyone else with a pulse. I would never, ever vote for such a dangerous person. He is a liar, a creep, and a felon.

Sandra Gerber, Philadelphia

This suburban woman likes nothing about Trump. He significantly weakened our democracy, freedom, and rule of law in his first term, and stands to do significantly more serious and irreparable harm if reelected. He and his minions attacked our elections at every level. He takes credit for rescinding Roe v. Wade and has consequently put thousands of women’s lives at risk. He wants to basically gut Social Security and Medicare and dismantle other safety net and regulatory programs protecting our safety and welfare. He played at dictatorship the first time around, cozied up to white nationalists, and courted tyrants in other countries. Next time he wants to turn our country into a Christofascist state with his billionaire donors as oligarchs sucking the remaining resources of a depleted middle class. As a woman, I envision our hard-earned place in society being rolled back 200 years.

Donald Trump’s “women want safety” scare tactics aren’t actually what women want. We want to be free, we want freedom of choice, equality, and to be respected. Trump isn’t offering any of that.

Trista Mack, Palatka, Fla.

This felonious, racist, misogynistic old man ranting about sharks and Hannibal Lecter is a rerun of the same old failed policies, hate, and childish insults. He cares only about himself — and staying out of jail.

Nicole Paul, Southampton

I don’t know how he’s even on the ballot. What happened to the GOP?

Ann Babcock, Macungie

I do not like Donald Trump, have never voted for him, and never will. And I am a lifelong Republican and former Ronald Reagan appointee. He is a liar, a cheater, an abuser of women, a loser, and has been terrible for the Republican Party. His handpicked candidates in Pennsylvania have been awful and rightfully lost badly. He caused the inflation we are suffering through now and refuses to admit his COVID-19 policies were terrible. He says whatever he thinks will get him applause. He associates with some of the worst people. He is unfit to serve as president.

Kay Kinney, Doylestown

I support Trump. I don’t support all of the ultraconservative ideologies, but I think the media gives that minority far too much attention and ignores the vast number of moderate Republicans. I don’t think the Democratic Party represents suburban families anymore.

Jaime Narke, Phoenixville

This suburban woman loathes Trump.

Rosanne Butler, Waynesville, N.C.

I don’t like Trump. Not at all. I find none of who he is or what he stands for appealing in any way. He only serves himself and those who might benefit him in the future. As a person who values community and thinks we should work for the betterment of all, I’m turned off by his crass self-interest and disregard for the vulnerable.

Amy Lisk, Downingtown

I am against everything Trump stands for — the hate, the division, the racism, the anti-LGBTQ policies, and the taking away of women’s reproductive rights.

Beth Scheetz, Harrisburg

Donald Trump lies, cheats, divides, and possesses a bully’s gift for identifying people’s vulnerabilities and targeting them. Unlike a true leader, he has no idea how to find and nurture the light in people or in ideas. That is why this suburban woman has come to associate him with darkness and all that is ugly. John Keats said it: “‘Beauty is truth, truth beauty,’ — that is all/ Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.”

Susan Korman, Yardley

I loathe Donald Trump with every fiber of my being for reasons too many to enumerate. His vile rhetoric is a poison to our society, and his policies are an assault both on our democracy and on peace in the world. He is a mercenary sociopath. We must overwhelmingly vote against him and everyone who supports him in the name of justice and civility.

Jennifer Grannis, Pasadena, Calif.

Donald Trump is an embarrassment to the office of the presidency. He’s intentionally rude, hateful, vindictive, controlling, and verbally abusive. He is unqualified to be reelected. He lacks knowledge of foreign affairs, diplomacy, economics, and our systems of government or government projects. He seeks power without the responsibility of learning how to do the job.

Lauren Averill, Annapolis, Md.

I can’t stand Donald Trump. He has never been for the people. He is a con man looking to line his own pockets. I worked hard and want all women to have rights. We are not going backward.

Eva Canitano, Charlotte, N.C.

Trump is a clear threat to our democracy. He should never be allowed anywhere near the Oval Office ever again.

Denise Campana, Collegeville

This suburban woman abhors Trump. And I used to be an urban woman who grew up in Trump Village in Brooklyn. We knew very early how vile he was. And he’s only grown worse. The man is a rapist, a liar, a narcissist, an adulterer, and is willing to sell himself and this country to the highest bidder.

Debra Ross, Manalapan, N.J.

Of course, we don’t like Donald Trump. We care about the future of this country, so we want to protect our rights and freedoms, the health and education of our children, and basic standards of decency.

Carrie Nielsen, Bryn Mawr

I detest Donald Trump. He is an authoritarian nightmare with clear sociopathic behaviors. He is a grave danger to our constitutional republic and our democracy. He is a convicted felon and an adjudicated sexual assailant. He has a proven record of racist practices, grift, and financial malpractice including multiple bankruptcies. I look forward to burying the MAGA minority this election, and his imprisonment for 34 felony convictions.

Rebecca Gail, Conshohocken

Trump’s disgusting and dismissive comments about women, his lack of support for the Capitol Police on Jan. 6, 2021, and his disdain for those who have served in the military (including my father and brothers) disqualify him as a candidate for any office, let alone the presidency. He’s yesterday’s news. Kamala Harris is the future. This suburban woman knows the assignment and is ready to deliver.

Erin Saddic, West Chester

Donald Trump is despicable, and his presidency and political involvement are the worst things to ever happen to America.

Laura Grablutz, Kimberton

Heck no, we don’t like him at all! He is a threat to our very way of life. He is available to the highest bidder, for any reason. He has no morals, scruples, or intelligence. He threatens our very way of life.

Karen Mirckle, Douglassville

Cannot abide that man. I live for the day we hear the last of him. Can’t come soon enough.

Kate Williamson, Bordentown

A suburban senior here. I have always hated liars and users. He’s the epitome of both. A disgusting human who thinks he’s clever and good-looking. Neither is true. The world is watching. Are we smart and American, or have we sunk to ignorant hate and fascism?

Lynn McGarvey, Ambler

I loathe Donald Trump and his ongoing denigration of women. The Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision was the epitome of arrogance and disregard for women’s rights. He can never be allowed to return to the White House.

Anne Pickrell, Coatesville

This particular suburban woman, and all her friends, would rather see Trump rot in prison than ever have him step foot in the White House again. How is he still walking free four years after his failed coup?

Martha Holland, Newtown

Trump is a narcissistic bully, misogynist, and racist at his core, and is the antithesis of everything I strive to teach my children to be. I will not and will never support someone who so blatantly and brazenly undermines the core of our democracy, nor someone who pushes an agenda that deliberately targets minority populations, including people of color and the LGBTQ community, which include a number of people I hold dear. He is a stain on the vibrancy that once was the U.S., and I look forward to the day we never need to speak his name again.

Nicole Laird, Horsham

I was raised so that you can hate Brussels sprouts, but you cannot hate people, so I’ll say I do not like Donald Trump. As a white woman in an interracial marriage, the mother of three beautiful Black women, an English as a second language teacher, a friend and advocate of immigrants, and a suburbanite, I can say I am not afraid.

I’m not afraid to enjoy Chicago. My daughters all studied there at great universities and live in the city. I’m not afraid of immigrants. I work with immigrant children and their families, and they are the joy of my life. Most of my ESL students have a better vocabulary and are better public speakers than Trump. Trump is a compulsive liar. He is a misogynist and a rapist. He does not respect our military. He praises dictators like Vladimir Putin. He does not support our allies. He does not make me feel safer. My family did not do better financially under his presidency. Stop the insanity.

Cheryl Jones, Lakemoor, Ill.

As a suburban woman, I definitely do not like Trump. His policies are horrible for women and for the country as a whole. Also, he is a petty, vindictive con man who should never be near the White House again.

Valerie Johnsen, The Villages, Fla.
