Philly muralists, grab your paintbrushes. The Phillies are offering $10,000 to a local artist for a new mural above Citizen Bank Park’s Ashburn Alley.

Backed by a partnership with the Phillies and financial services company SEI, the initiative is inviting artists from across the region to submit ideas for a new mural which will be unveiled ahead of the 2025 MLB season.

The theme for the contest, now in its second year, is “connecting communities.” In addition to the cash prize, the winner will receive tickets to a Phillies game and have the chance to throw out the first pitch following a pre-game celebration of their work.

First and second runners-up will also receive tickets to a Phillies game.

Last year’s winner was Colombia-born artist Jose “Busta” Bustamante, whose mural Next Generation depicted a young boy and girl wearing Phillies gear standing against a backdrop of a Citizens Bark Park bathed in sunset colors.

“It was important for me to imbue these characters with a sense of strength, hope, and confidence,” Bustamante said in a 2024 press statement.

According to SEI, this year’s mural will adorn an 18-foot wide and 12-foot tall wall in left-center field. Submissions are available to artists residing in the Philadelphia region, which includes select counties in New Jersey and Delaware.

For consideration, applicants need to submit a proposed concept on an 18 by 24-inch canvas, which they can send by mail or drop-off at the SEI office.

Artists will be rated on their technical skills, the originality and visual appeal of their proposal, and the design’s connection to the theme.

Submissions with political, religious, or controversial messaging, advertisement or copyrighted material, or AI-generated artwork will be disqualified.

The competition is open until 5 p.m., Feb. 14, 2025.
