Basketball: The High Invitational set for Saturday at Camden

Eight teams in The Inquirer's Top 20 rankings will participate in the inaugural The High Invitational Saturday in Camden High School's Clarence Turner Gymnasium.

The six-game event also will serve as a showcase for the new scoreboard in the gymnasium, most of the money for which was donated by former Camden star Dajuan Wagner and his family.

Camden coach John Valore, who is in his second year with the program after spending most of his career at Cherry Hill East, said it was important for the Panthers to host an event that brings together various top programs in South Jersey.

"This is a great venue, a historic venue," Valore said of Camden's gymnasium. "The best basketball that ever came out of South Jersey, and maybe the state, came out of one gym.

"Other teams, suburban teams, need to come into Camden and see this facility and play in thsi facility. And people in our community need to have an opportunity to see a bunch of teams that come into Camden."

Here's the schedule for the event:

Second-ranked Paulsboro vs. Cinnaminson, 11 a.m.

Medford Tech vs. No. 17 Cherry Hill West, 12:30 p.m.

No. 20 Pemberton vs. Bishop Eustace, 2 p.m.

No. 5 Camden Catholic vs. No. 9 Haddonfield, 3:30 p.m.

Woodrow Wilson vs. No. 6 Camden, 5 p.m.

No. 10 Delsea vs. No. 7 Rancocas Valley, 6:30 p.m.
