Today in Philly history: Phillies lose 10,000 games

The Phillies made sports history on July 15, 2007, by becoming the first professional sports team to lose 10,000 games.

That unprecedented event occurred before the Philadelphia home crowd with a 10-2 defeat to the St. Louis Cardinals.

It was, however, the third game of a successful home series for Philadelphia, which took two of three from the defending World Series champions.

With 8,810 wins as of that momentous game, the Phillies have the tenth most wins in all of sports. The team would need 32 straight 100-win seasons to pass the .500 mark as a franchise.
