Comcast Cable's technology exec Kotay quits for personal reasons

The departure of the cable division's chief technology officer comes amid an effort to turn Comcast into a high-tech company.

Sree Kotay, a driving force in the Comcast Corp.'s transformation into a nimbler high-tech company as the cable division's chief technology officer, has left the company for personal reasons.

Comcast would not comment on his recent departure over the last several days, which was first reported on Monday in trade publications.

In early February, Kotay was the top-ranking executive who participated in the anti-Trump immigration protest in Philadelphia, visible among the several hundred Comcast employee marchers who then gathered for speeches in Dilworth Plaza. A Comcast official said his departure had nothing to do with the protest.

Kotay helped develop the X1 set-top box -- which Comcast has touted as central to its future. Before joining Comcast, Kotay had been a senior vice president at AOL Inc.

Kotay, who was traveling on Tuesday, had no comment. Comcast had no information on his replacement.
