Drexel students get graduate degree in TV sitcomery
A student production, ‘OFF CAMPUS’, gets a shot on broadcast
Unless you're a steady viewer of Drexel University's student station (DUTV), you probably haven't seen OFF CAMPUS, a raucous comedy about college kids in Philly making that oh-so-painful transition to the adult world.
Your chance comes this weekend, when CW57 presents a double shot of OFF CAMPUS at midnight on Saturday. Though cast with working actors, the show is written and produced by students from the Cinema and Television Department at Drexel's Westphal College.
Pretty slickly, too. Those opening credits look like a better composed version of the ones on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, using local landmarks from City Hall to SEPTA. In the second episode (fourth in the series), which is getting its world premiere on CW57 tomorrow night, a Betsy Ross reenactress gets heckled and a bike gets stolen with West Philly swiftness.
Can't stay up that late? You're probably not a college student. But you can still catch both episodes on DUTV next Friday, starting at 8 p.m. You'll find it at Comcast on channels 54 or 62, and at FIOS on channel 37. Or simply move into a dorm.
Take a look at the 2011 pilot in the video (below). There's been some turnover in the cast since then.
