‘The Greatest Event in Television History’?...or the strangest? VIDEO
Adam Scott and Paul Rudd team up to recreate the opening sequence from ‘Bosom Buddies’
The fact that it's on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim is indication enough that it's a weird concept, but The Greatest Event in Television History is far more bizarre than most. Last night the channel unveiled the fourth and final chapter in this curiouser and curiouser series.
It is the attempt by Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation) and friends to recreate note-for-note the opening sequence to the 1980 sitcom, Bosom Buddies. That comedy is remembered primarily as a springboard for the career of Tom Hanks. His co-star, roommate and fellow cross-dresser, Peter Scolari is currently playing Hannah's dad on Girls.
Rounding out the tribute cast you have Gillian Jacobs of Community in the Donna Dixon role, Mo Collins as the immortal Holland Taylor and Aidy Bryant as Wendi Jo Sperber. As usual Survivor's Jeff Probst hosts these nonsensical tributes.
As you'll see, this is more a "Making of" special as Rudd gets way too far into his role as Kip. Nice cameos by the original stars, Scolari and Hanks. But the funniest bit may be the trashing of Billy Joel who is mocked to his face for not being as good as the guy pretending to sing like Billy Joel on the ersatz '80s opening.
In the first three Greatest Events, Scott paid rapt homage to the opening credits of Simon & Simon (with Jon Hamm), Hart to Hart (with Amy Poehler) and Too Close for Comfort (with everyone and her sister).
Cease and desist!
