An 18-year-old West Philadelphia man has been jailed on $5 million bail after he allegedly shot two men on a SEPTA train after arguing with them about whether the 76ers or the Chicago Bulls were the better team.
An 18-year-old West Philadelphia man has been jailed on $5 million bail after he allegedly shot two men on a SEPTA train after arguing with them about whether the 76ers or the Chicago Bulls were the better team.
Matthew Early, of 49th Street near Chestnut, was arraigned Sunday night and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, gun offenses and related crimes for the Dec. 12 shooting at the 46th Street El station in West Philadelphia. His next court appearance is set for Jan. 17.
Early allegedly began blasting after he and his brother, Eric, 17, bickered with two Bulls fans on the train after a Sixers loss at the Wells Fargo Center. Surveillance video showed the gunman brandishing a handgun within seconds after exiting and turning to fire at passengers before sauntering away. One bullet hit one victim in the stomach, before hitting another man's leg. Eric Early also is being held on $5 million bail on similar charges.
