The holiday weekend got off to a deadly start Friday with two men shot and killed within two minutes of each other shortly before 5 p.m.

The holiday weekend got off to a deadly start Friday with two men shot and killed within two minutes of each other shortly before 5 p.m.
A 20-year-old man was shot once at 16th and Catharine streets around 4:54 p.m. The victim was transported to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead at 5:17 p.m., police said.
Investigators said that the man was shot in the upper torso by a black male, wearing a white T-shirt who fled west on Catharine in a four-door gold-colored sedan, possibly a Mazda.
In the second shooting, a 24-year-old man was shot in the hip and leg on Judson Street near Cambria at 4:56 p.m. He was transported to Temple University Hospital and pronounced dead at 5:31 p.m, police said.
Shortly after 6 p.m., a woman was shot by police near 28th and Cambria streets. Police said the woman was apparently wielding a knife and ignored orders from at least one officer to drop the weapon. She was in stable condition at Temple University Hospital.
About 7:30 p.m., police were called to 52nd Street near Market in West Philly where a man was found dead after an apparent assault.
