World's first refrigerated beach ! ?
"Everybody wants to go green, everybody wants to get greener" - you hear it all the time these days, not least from this very blog. But not everybody is so concerned with their carbon footprint and reducing the size thereof - and as a for-instance, take a look at this story from the Daily Mail about a hotel in Dubai that vows to be the first to boast a refrigerated beach.

You read that right, a refrigerated beach. The technology is "a system of heat-absorbing pipes built under the sand and giant wind blowers, designed to keep tourists cool," but what's more important is the outrage at this unconscionable waste of precious resources.
That's why I, for one, am going to take a stand right now: I am not going to stay at this hotel. Just to make my point loud and clear, I'm not even going to set foot on the soil of Dubai. And as this hotel is part of a proposed chain, I'm stating here and now that I will not be staying at any of the locations of the Palazzo Versace! That should get them thinking.
I hope Earth to Philly readers will join me in this effort to draw a line in the sand - which, by the way, will take a lot more effort once that sand is frozen. (Hope they thought of that!)
Please feel free to add your own commitment not to patronize the refrigerated beach in comments. Together we will stop the madness!
