The Irish bandleader and political activist who organized Live Aid and Live 8 in Philly is being honored by the Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame this week

The Walk of Fame will be expanding down South Broad Street and the induction will now be an annual affair.

“Wernick’s orchestral music has power and brilliance, an emphasis on register, space, and scale,” Lesley Valdes, former Inquirer classical music critic, said in 1990.

The 83-year-old South Philly singer has advocated for his own induction, oncing taking out a full page ad in Billboard saying, “I want my flowers when I’m alive. I can’t smell them when I’m dead.”

The Australian songwriter and band leader ministered to his people on the Wild God Tour in his first Philly show in eight years.
