Accompanied by floats, clowns, uniformed bands, and marchers in costume, Santa Claus came back to Philadelphia on Nov. 22, 1945 in the annual Gimbel Brothers Thanksgiving Day parade. At the climx of the parade, Santa climbed a ladder to Gimbels toy department as thousands of spectators watched.

On Nov. 25, 1920, the Gimbel Brothers hosted the first Thanksgiving Day parade in Philadelphia.

Christmas Village in Philadelphia at LOVE Park and City Hall’s Dilworth Park on the preview weekend of Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024. The open-air holiday market features over 120 rustic wooden cottages trimmed in festive lights and housing vendors selling goods from around the world, along with food and live entertainment. The Visitors Center houses a collection of holiday trees with regular appearances by Santa Claus. There is also a Ferris wheel and Kids Train on the north apron of City Hall and a double-decker carousel in the courtyard. This all runs through Dec. 24.
