With Tree Of Life set to open on Friday, there's a Terence Malick retrospective screening this week at the Mandell Theater on the Drexel University campus in University City. Tonight, it's Days of Heavan, Malick's disquietingly beautiful 1978 movie starring Richard Gere, Brooke Adams and Sam Shepard. That will be followed immediately at 9 by Badlands, Malick's 1973 directorial debut starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek (that's them) about the 1959 killing spree of Charlie Starkweather that was also the subject of the title song to Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska. And tomorrow at 7, The Thin Red Line, about the World War II battle for Guadalcanal willl be shown. All screenings are free, with a $5 suggested donation. More info here. Below, the Badlands trailer, and Springsteen's "Nebraska."
