Springsteen Heads Up List Of Kennedy Center Honorees

The Washington Post reported this morning that Bruce Springsteen will be honored by the Kennedy Center this year, along with jazz band leader Dave Brubeck, actor Robert DeNiro, comic genius Mel Brooks and opera singer Grace Bumbry. In honoring Springsteen, who plays four Spectrum shows in South Philadelphia next month, it seems the D.C.-based Kennedy Center is checking classic rock artists off its list: Last year's honorees included The Who. The awards are given out the first weekend of December, and presumably, DeNiro will tell the story of how his "You talkin' to me?" speech in Taxi Driver was inspired by Springsteen. The Post story is here.
