Weathervane Report
I've got a story in this Sunday's Inquirer A & E section about Weathervane Music, the Fishtown "new music incubator" non-profit headed up by producer Brian McTear. That story is here. In the last year, Weathervane has spotlighted 10 different worthy acts via its "Shaking Through" collaborative series with WXPN. All could be considered up and comers, with the possible exceptions of garage-psych-folk rockers Strapping Fieldhands, who've been around for decades, and one-off Philly supergroup Man Suits, which featured members of Dr. Dog and mewithoutYou.
Five of the Shaking Through videos are gathered below, starting with the one for Weathervane poster child Sharon Van Etten for "Love More," and including Philadelphia foursome Party Photographers, who are the Weathervane band I'm most jazzed about at the moment. Van Etten (pictured), whose gorgeous 7 song set Epic, produced by McTear, should be on your short list of 2010 music you need to hear if you haven't already, plays Johnny Brenda's on Thursday. And below all those clips, you'll find a music player for Shaking Through, Vol. 1, which annoyingly includes song titles but not artist names. More info at ShakingThrough.com, where the 2011 series will launch with the straight-out-of-Emilia-Romagna Bolognese band A Classic Education on Tuesday.
