What I saw: Eagles vs. Dolphins
Here's what I saw during today's Eagles-Dolphins game:
OFFENSE
* It was a rough game for Michael Vick. He was out of sync all day, completing 15 of 30 passes for 208 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He ran just twice for 9 yards and was sacked four times. Vick slipped quite a bit early on. The INT was his 12th of the year. Vick rolled to his left and threw across his body on the turnover in the third quarter.
* LeSean McCoy wasn't very effective either. He carried 27 times for 38 yards, averaging 1.4 YPC. McCoy also had three catches for 33 yards, including a 26-yard catch and run in the first quarter. For much of the game, he had nowhere to go and was met at or behind the line of scrimmage. McCoy did have a pair of rushing touchdowns, giving him 14 on the season. That's second to only Steve Van Buren in Eagles franchise history. Van Buren had 15 in 1945. McCoy has three more games to set a new mark.
* The offensive line, which has been one of the few bright spots on this team, had a rough day as the Dolphins dominated the line of scrimmage. Jason Peters and Danny Watkins were called for back-to-back false start penalties in the first half.
* The Dolphins blocked Chas Henry's first punt, setting up their only touchdown. Henry later got nailed as he punted, but the refs called a flag on the Eagles for holding. Not sure why it wasn't roughing the punter.
* Silly play on a punt return in the second. The Eagles had momentum when DeSean Jackson threw the ball across the field to Curtis Marsh, who was hit and fumbled.
* Jackson led the Eagles with four catches for 59 yards and a touchdown. He ran a nice route for the 34-yard score and got wide open.
* Jeremy Maclin played only the first half. He had one catch for 13 yards on four targets. Maclin got wide open on one play, but Vick overthrew him.
* A clock malfunction delayed the start of the second half until about 3:02 p.m. Fox's HD feed went out in the fourth quarter as well.
* The second half might have been as bad as the offense has looked all season. They had an interception and six punts on seven possessions.
DEFENSE
* The defense carried the Birds. The Eagles had nine sacks and forced three turnovers. Trent Cole and Jason Babin had three sacks apiece. Brian Rolle, Casey Matthews and Philip Hunt each had one. The Dolphins' offensive line was banged-up and the Eagles took advantage. Matt Moore left the game in the second half and was replaced by J.P. Losman.
* Good game for Asante Samuel. He forced a Davone Bess fumble and recovered it in the second quarter.
* Nnamdi Asomugha appeared to have good coverage on Brandon Marshall in the first, but he got turned around, and Marshall caught a 16-yard touchdown.
* Going into the game, the Eagles had the worst red-zone defense in the NFL, allowing touchdowns 70.59 percent of the time, but Miami converted just one of three chances.
* Kurt Coleman had his fourth interception of the season, returning it to the 1 yard line to set up McCoy's second touchdown in the first half.
* Babin forced a Moore fumble in the second right after Marsh turned the ball over on the punt return.
* The Eagles were good in short yardage. They stuffed the Dolphins on 3rd-and-1 and 4th-and-1 in the second quarter. Derek Landri came up with a big stop on 3rd-and-goal in the third.
* Hunt was responsible for the safety, sacking Moore in the end zone.
* Reggie Bush only had 17 yards in the first quarter, but was better after halftime. He averaged 7.4 yards per carry and finished with 103 yards.
