Former Inquirer reporter Kate Fagan signs new deal with ESPN
Former Sixers beat writer Kate Fagan, now a writer and columnist for ESPN, has signed a new multiyear deal where she will continue her role as a reporter and columnist for espnW.
A former Inquirer reporter is staying in Bristol, Conn.
Former Sixers beat writer Kate Fagan, now a writer and columnist for ESPN, has signed a multi-year deal in which she will continue her role as a reporter and columnist for espnW.
On top of her busy schedule, which includes regular appearances on ESPN's "Around the Horn" and "First Take" as well as co-hosting duties on espnW's "The Trifecta with Spain, Jane and Kate on ESPN Radio," Fagan will host the new radio show "Will & Kate" for ESPN Radio. The show, which will also feature ESPN contributor Will Cain, will air Sundays from 7-10 a.m. and launch on Sunday, Valentine's Day.
"I'm really excited to be back with ESPN, and specifically back with espnW, a place whose mission directly aligns with my passions, and with the kinds of stories I like to tell," Fagan said.
Fagan spent three seasons covering the 76ers for the Inquirer. Her 2014 book "The Reappearing Act," chronicled her process of coming out as gay on a college basketball team led by born-again Christians, which she also addressed head-on in a 2012 ESPN The Magazine column:
"Love the Sinner, hate the sin. I had just come out as gay to a number of my basketball teammates at the University of Colorado, some of whom were Christian, and they responded with those six words, believing them to be an expression of tolerance and acceptance. Love the sinner (in this case, me), hate the sin (in this case, my sexual orientation) became the vehicle that allowed them to transfer the burden of our star-crossed friendship to me."
If Fagan wasn't busy enough, she's writing a book about Madison Holleran, a University of Pennsylvania track and field star who took her own life in January 2014.
