5 stories to follow: Dec. 26

Here's your daily look at five stories to know about:

1. Kwanzaa begins: Kwanzaa, the week-long celebration of African-American heritage and culture, begins today. The Afro-One Dance, Drama and Drum Theatre group will host a celebration in Willingboro tonight, and Kwanzaabration, a daylong event organized by Kenny Gamble and Oshunbumi Fernandez (the head of the annual Odunde festival), takes place Saturday.

2. Christmas tree recycling: Wondering what to do with your Christmas tree after the holiday season? More than 20 Philadelphia groups are now involved in "treecycling" events to reduce the number of trees sent to landfills.

3. Delayed packages: Some gifts from Santa may show up today. Shipping problems at UPS and FedEX, blamed on poor weather and overloaded systems, mean some packages didn't make it to their destinations in time for Christmas and will instead arrive in the next day or two.

4. Snow potential: There's a chance for snow today, particularly in the northwest suburbs and in the Poconos, where up to an inch and a half could fall. The National Weather Service is warning holiday travelers that roads through the Poconos could be slippery this morning.

5. Franklin Mills Mall: The Franklin Mills Mall is trying to reinvent itself -- as a more conventional shopping center.
