Hamsters bare all in new 'hamuketsu' craze in Japan

There's no other way to say this other than the hamsters in Japan are going wild!

Believe it or not these little critters' rear ends are featured in not one, but two books in Japan, reports Japan Real Time of The Wall Street Journal.

Yes, there is a name for this latest obsession and it's called "hamuketsu." It literally means "hamster butt."

The first book is titled "Hamuketsu-So Cute You Could Faint," which was published by Sekai Bunka Publishing Inc. in April and if you can imagine this, there have been a total of 30,000 copies shipped.

Yukako Minami, a spokeswoman from the publishing company has in interesting take on why these hamsters are so popular.

"Male hamsters appear to be more popular because they have bigger and rounder buttocks, according to the publisher. The pictures of furry roundness help "soothe the hearts" of viewers, said Ms. Minami."

The second book, called "Hamuketsu," which was published in March has already printed around 15,000 copies.

"The great thing about hamuketsu is that it is delightfully cute. I can't stop smiling when I see these butts," said Takeshi Takahashi, a spokesman from Basilico Co. which printed "Hamuketsu."

It sounds like "Divergent" and "The Hunger Games" might have some competition if these hamsters continue to capture the heart of fans.
