Villanova 27, Temple 24
The Eagles are playing tonight and I'm at Lincoln Financial Field for a football game. Makes perfect sense, doesn't it?
If you take Villanova and Penn and Delaware and Temple, I mean, you have four oustanding college football teams that suffer because of Hollywood, the NFL and the Eagles. So you've got to turn to Page 5 before you get to see anything about college football.
I think the NFL Network, I think the NFL itself is so powerful, that it dwarfs all of us so much. And all of you who were at the game today, this is a great game to watch...
Philadelphia is missing college football. I've been here for 25 years and they're missing out on a great thing. I don't really know what the answer is, but I know a game like this certainly can help it.
- Villanova coach Andy Talley
I'm not a marketing guy, but if you didn't have fun at that game, if you didn't enjoy that, you don't like football. There's alway sgoing to be the skeptics, there's always going to be the naysayers about "Why are you playing that game?"
You play that game for what just happened. It was a hell of a football game, and we made too many mistakes to win the game.
- Temple coach Al Golden
At the start of the night, I thought Villanova could win the game but that Temple probably would. The Owls had enough of a size advantage on the lines that if they could control the ball, Villanova wouldn't have enough time to pull all the tricks out if its bag.
So much for that. The first half was a bit dull, but the second half was definitely entertaining. I don't think either side's fans could walk away saying they didn't get their money's worth, though I'm sure there will still be plenty of sting felt on North Broad Street this morning.
If it makes you feel any better, I'm bringing back the Spectacle of the Week poll. I should have done it yesterday morning to include the Thursday games, but I didn't have time. You can vote in the poll box over on the right side of the blog.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
