A lightning Bolt strikes New York City
Though I wasn't watching the TV telecast, it just crossed the AP wires that Jamaican star (and Penn Relays veteran) Usain Bolt has set a new world record in the 100-meter sprint at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York tonight.
For all the thunderstorms that slammed New York City's Icahn Stadium this evening, the fans that did stick around until late tonight were richly rewarded.
Though I wasn't watching the TV telecast, it just crossed the AP wires that Jamaican star (and Penn Relays veteran) Usain Bolt has set a new world record in the 100-meter sprint at the Reebok Grand Prix.
Borrowing the AP copy because I'm about to go to sleep:
The Jamaican sprinter, who doesn't even consider the 100 meters his best race, set the world record Saturday night with a time of 9.72 seconds at the Reebok Grand Prix, .02 seconds faster than the old record held by his countryman, Asafa Powell.

UPDATE: I found the video on YouTube. The race took place after ESPN2 had gone off the air, but the world feed that went out on Eurosport and elsewhere kept going.
