Tony Battie coming back to the Sixers
The Sixers have decided to bring back veteran center Tony Battie, a source said.
The first move by the 76ers on this, the first day free agents can be signed, certainly isn't a blockbuster, but a necessity nonetheless.
According to a source, the team is bringing back veteran center Tony Battie, probably for the veteran minimum.
Battie was with the team last season, playing in 38 games in a backup center role to starter Spencer Hawes. He averaged about 10 minutes a game.
Hawes is an unrestricted free agent, but probably will be returning to the team.
The Sixers drafted center Nikola Vucevic and still have Marreese Speights on the roster.
It wouldn't be surprising if it takes a little time for Vucevic to learn the system, nor would it be a shock if Speights is dealt before the season.
Training camp open at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine at 4 today.
