Nick Foles and LeSean McCoy among those competing for Madden cover

After a successful season that included a playoff appearance, two Philadelphia Eagles find themselves in the cover conversation for the newest iteration of the Madden football franchise.

EA Sports has left selection of the cover athlete of its popular annual football simulation to fans over the past several seasons, and they are looking to continue the tradition.

This year's vote, which was officially announced at last week's NFL Draft, features 16 young NFL stars competing for the coveted cover. Among those in competition are Eagles running back LeSean McCoy, who made it to the second round of voting last year, and Eagles quarterback Nick Foles, who is a first to the cover competition.

McCoy ultimately lost to the eventual winner, Adrian Peterson, last year, but has relatively easy path - much easier than Foles - to the final four. He faces Colts wideout T.Y. Hilton in the first round, and then would face the winner of Andrew Luck and Alfred Morris.

As a seven-seed, Foles faces 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, and if he can pull off the upset, he'll face the winner of Demaryius Thomas and Luke Kuechly. He and McCoy would only have to face each other if both make the finals.

Foles is wasting no time campaigning for the cover, however, as he has already released an interestingly low-quality video clamoring for some support - and he'll need it.

"Hey Madden fans, it's Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback. Just sending out a video to say, hey, vote for me. I know there's a lot of Eagles fans out there, fly Eagles, fly," Foles stated.

In addition to Foles and McCoy, the other athletes competing for the cover are: Thomas, Kuechly, Kaepernick, Hilton, Luck, Morris, Richard Sherman, Alson Jeffery, Jimmy Graham, Eddie Lacy, Cam Newton, Antonio Brown, Jamaal Charles, and A.J. Green.

"Every year, ESPN and EA Sports continue to go bigger with the Madden NFL Cover Vote," VP of Games & Partnerships for ESPN stated.

"We are building on our momentum over the last three Madden NFL Cover Votes to deliver an engaging experience that puts the cover in the hands of the fans, which have resulted in some of ESPN's most successful social activations to date."

With a victory in the Cover Vote, Foles, or McCoy, would join Donavan McNabb as the only Philadelphia Eagle to grace the game's cover. McNabb was on the cover of Madden 2006, after the team's Super Bowl season.

Although considering all of the talk of a Madden cover curse, maybe the Eagles don't want one of their top two offensive options on the cover.

The winner will be announced during a special segment of the 6:00 PM Sportscenter on Friday, June 6. Madden NFL 15 will be released on Tuesday, August 26.
