Ben Davis joins Phillies' broadcast team

Former major league catcher Ben Davis, a Malvern Prep graduate and West Chester resident, will join the Phillies' broadcast this season.

Former major league catcher Ben Davis, a Malvern Prep graduate and West Chester resident, will join the Phillies' broadcast this season, Comcast SportsNet announced Thursday.

Davis joins play-by-play man Tom McCarthy and analyst Matt Stairs in the booth. He replaces Jamie Moyer, who decided not to return after his first season last year.

"Among the top priorities for CSN in hiring a new broadcaster was to select someone who could connect with our fans and complement and enhance the existing broadcasting team," Dave Buck, the Phillies' senior vice president of marketing and advertising sales, said in a statement.

"As a Philadelphia-area native and regular contributor to Phillies coverage on CSN, we believe Ben is that guy.  His insight into the game, and his overall professional demeanor, are qualifications that helped in the selection process.  We look forward to his contributions."

In a statement, Davis said: "Growing up a Philadelphia Phillies fan, this is a dream come true." He for the last four seasons appeared on CSN's pre- and post-game shows.

Davis, 37, will make his debut in the booth on March 3, when the Phillies host the Yankees at Bright House Field in the Grapefruit League opener.
