Five things to know about Phillies pick Luke Williams

The Phillies used Tuesday's third-round pick on high school shortstop Luke Williams.

The Phillies used Tuesday's third-round pick on Luke Williams, a shortstop from Southern California's Dana Hills High School. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder is a righthanded hitter. Here are five things to know about Williams:

The 83rd- pick was announced as "Lucas Williams" but his high school roster lists Williams as "Luke Williams." He was Dana Point's captain and batted .315 this season in 32 games. He drove in 19 runs and slapped nine extra-base hits, including four homers.

Williams also played football at Dana Hills as a wide receiver and defensive back.

He broke the school's steals record as a junior with 26 steals and 36 runs scored. He was named the MVP of the Perfect Game California World Series in the summer of 2014.

Williams is committed to play baseball at Cal Poly.

Dana Hills has produced pitchers Tanner Scheppers (Texas Rangers), Peter Tago (Chicago White Sox), and Blake Taylor (New York Mets).
