Five things to know about Phillies pick Scott Kingery
The Phillies picked second baseman Scott Kingery with the 48th pick overall of Monday's second round. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder batted leadoff for the University of Arizona. Here's four things to know about Kingery:
- In 54 games for Arizona this season, Kingery led the Wildcats with a .392 average and 92 hits. He also had 15 doubles and five home runs, which is the second most on the team.
- He led the Pac-12 in batting average (.392) and was named last month as the conference's player of the year. He also led the conference in hits (92) and runs (53). He was also named to the Pac-12's all-defensive team.
- Kingery played for the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod Baseball League, where players hit with wooden bats, last summer. He made league's All-Star game and hit .312 with five doubles, a triple and two home runs in 33 games for the Whitecaps.
- Kingery was named a First-Team Louisville Slugger All-American for his strong play at Mountain Pointe (Ariz.) High School. He was also named a Second-Team All-American by Baseball America as a senior.
- Played in the 2006 Little League World Series with Akwatukee Little League out of Phoenix.
