Reading's Quinn out longer than originally expected
Reading centerfielder Roman Quinn, one of the Phillies top prospects, will be sidelined for longer than originally expected. Quinn suffered a tear in his hip flexor last Friday (June 12) while running out a ground ball.
"It is too early to know but we feel he has a good shot to return by Aug. 1," said Phillies director of player development Joe Jordan in a phone interview.
The 22-year-old Quinn, who might be the fastest player in the Phillies farm system, has enjoyed a strong season for Reading.
He is hitting .306 with 44 runs, 29 stolen bases and a.971 OPS. A switch hitter, Quinn was batting .350 righthanded .281 left handed.
Quinn has battled injuries recently. He suffered a season-ending hairline fracture of his right wrist on June 24, 2013 while playing for Lakewood. During that offseason, he ruptured his right Achilles tendon, forcing him to miss the early part of last year.
"He has really played well and it's a setback but we hope to get him back and have a good four to five weeks at the end of the season," Jordan said.
