Report: Joel Embiid suffered a stress fracture in his foot

So you might have been thinking that the Cleveland Cavaliers or Milwaukee Bucks would take Kansas center Joel Embiid with one of the first two overall picks in the NBA Draft, which would let Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins fall to the 76ers.

You might have to hold that thought, and you might have to hold it for a while.

ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman reported Thursday morning that Embiid has suffered an injury to his right foot. Later in the afternoon, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports received word from Embiid's agent that the seven-footer suffered a stress fracture in his right foot and will have surgery Friday.

Goodman's colleague at the Worldwide Leader, Chad Ford, got a hold of Embiid's agent. Arn Tellem told Ford that because of the injury, Embiid won't be doing any more workouts before the draft, which takes place June 26. He had been scheduled to work out for the Bucks this week.

Tellem also told ESPN.com's Andy Katz that the injury took place "sometime over the last few days."

This news will add to concerns that have already piled up about Embiid's back. Though the 20-year-old is definitely the best big man prospect in this year's draft pool, the seven-foot Cameroon native has been the center of enormous speculation about whether his health will hold up in the NBA.

If Embiid's foot injury ends up scaring off the Bucks and Cavaliers, the 76ers could find themselves in a quite challenging situation.

Then again, 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie drafted Nerlens Noel last year despite Noel having a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
