Sixers reportedly intrigued with drafting a point guard

The days leading up to the 2014 NBA Draft have been anything but dull.

In the wake of the news that potential top pick Joel Embiid has yet another injury issue, just who will go at No. 1 - and No. 2 - has become even less clear. Teams such as the 76ers that have high picks may have to consider backup strategies.

You've read the rumors that Andrew Wiggins may be Plan A for the Sixers, and it's safe to assume that Sam Hinkie has plans B through Z up his sleeve. On Thursday, word got out that one of those plans may involve drafting a point guard in the first round.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported that the 76ers have been "intrigued with the possibility" of such a move, and that the team has been "closely studying Dante Exum and Marcus Smart."

Smart, who played college basketball at Oklahoma State, is a new name in the mix for the Sixers. Up until now, the team had mostly been linked to Kansas' Wiggins, Duke's Jabari Parker, and Australia native Exum.

To be clear, Smart would not be in play for the third overall selection. He'd be a more likely candidate to go at No. 10. But he certainly throws a new factor into the 76ers' equation - especially for reigning Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams.

And that's not all. Wojnarowski also reported that the Sixers have inquired about acquiring another top-10 pick, in addition to the third and 10th overall selections.

With the draft now only seven days away, it is certain to be a busy week for the Sixers.
