Train like a soldier with Sgt. Nate's Ranger Workout

If you are a fitness junkie, then you have probably been to a boot camp or two or three. But have you ever experienced a true military boot camp?

If you are a fitness junkie, then you have probably been to a boot camp class or two (or three). But have you ever experienced a true military boot camp?

Sgt. Nate Griffin, owner of Professional Touch Fitness and former army sergeant and medic, wants to give you a taste of what it is like to be a soldier in basic training.

A military style cross-training system, the Ranger Training Workout Program is all body weight exercises. No weights or stretch bands are used. During this boot camp, you will line up in military formation and be led through a series of push-ups, dips, burpees, jumping jacks, chasing-the-rabbit and other exercises with only military cadences and the sound of the drill sergeant guiding you through.

"You won't find Top 40 hits played during this workout," Sgt. Nate explained.

He told Philly.com that when he had military folks come in for Ranger training, they said that they felt like they had just been to basic training -- which of course is the perfect complement for this former military man.

Sgt. Nate's motto is "Don't Make Excuses…Make It Happen." He explained, "We want everyone to feel as if they have been in the Army for the last 45 minutes. We don't act military, we are military."

While you might be thinking, "Oh the military life isn't for me," Sgt. Nate reassured that while the workout can be intimidating at first, you can get through it if you take your time. It can be modified for different levels and he has taught junior rangers ranging in age from late teens to their 70's.

"It is not about how fast you are or about being competitive. We encourage everyone to workout at their own level," he added.

At Professional Touch Fitness, Sgt. Nate also offers other classes like Kettle Bell, Cross Training, Cardio Kick Boxing, Gentle Fit Condition, Strength & Resistance Training and TRX Bands. Classes are held every day so check out the website for more information.
