July 28: Stephen A. Smith is really, really sorry

Thankfully, it seems unlikely that ESPN will fire Stephen A. Smith, giving us undoubtedly a future full of Smith discussing issues in which he is completely over his head, and then subsequently apologizing for them:

  1. "I am sorry for defending poachers of endangered wildlife. I just feel like perhaps if rhinoceros were not such large targets, perhaps they wouldn't be so easy to find and mutilate."

  2. "My deepest apologies go out to the vegetarian community. Despite my phrasing, in no way do I believe you are all slowly turning into plants."

  3. "I was misunderstood at the time and would like to clarify my statements on the benefits of startling small children as a means to potty train them."

  4. "I withdraw my comments on legalizing vehicular manslaughter. They were private and I'm being told our show is televised nationally."

  5. "I apologize for the large hole in the front of my face. Apparently my thoughts have been coming out of it this whole time."

If two people are going to be trusted to branch from sports stories into the social issues of the day, it should always and definitely be Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless, two of the nation's leading sources of trusted, informed opinions, always shining light on the angle of an issue you may not have even known was there (because of how stupid and wrong it is).
