WWE Monday Night Raw results and observations (11/7/16): Brock Lesnar has no sympathy

It was an historic episode of Raw this past Monday night, as the show emanated from the country of Scotland for the first time in the 23-year history of the program.

Despite being a milestone event for Raw and for WWE in general, it did not make for a very memorable evening at the SSE Hyrdo Arena in Glasgow.

As always, there were positive moments that saved the show from being a complete and utter abomination. Unfortunately, those moments were few and far between.

Before I dig deep into my analysis, here are the full match results from Glasgow:

- Rich Swann & Sin Cara def. Brian Kendrick & Noam Dar

- Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows def. The New Day

- The Shining Stars def. The Golden Truth

- Sasha Banks, Bayley & Alicia Fox def. Charlotte, Nia Jax & Dana Brooke

- Sami Zayn def. Rusev

- Kevin Owens def. Chris Jericho, Seth Rollins, Braun Strowman & Roman Reigns

Owens inadvertently pinned his best friend

In what was easily the best match of the night, Owens defeated his four Survivor Series teammates in a fatal five-way by way of pinning his best friend, Jericho.

Now, this didn't happen on purpose, as Owens was hit with a Superman punch by Reigns, which caused to him to fall on top of Jericho, who had suffered a pedigree at the hands of Rollins only moments earlier.

Although it was an accident, technically speaking, Owens still pinned Jericho and I'm intrigued by what WWE does with that moving forward.

Will Jericho take offense to his best friend pinning him to win a match even if it wasn't on purpose or will it be swept under the rug as if it never happened, which I think would be a mistake.

Either way, I liked the match, but I liked the finish even more for the potential of what is to come.

Stephanie McMahon's character was all over the place

Although that match was very good, the reason why it even happened made zero sense from the standpoint of Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon.

Stephanie McMahon opened the show with all five men in the ring and explained to them how important it was for them to get on the same page, work together and defeat Smackdown Live at Survivor Series.

She even went as far as to threaten them by telling them that their jobs depended on the outcome.

Not even 10 minutes later she booked them all in a fatal five-way for the main event against each other. Wait a minute. She just said she needed them all to get along, but then she turned right around and put them against each other.

I understand she did so that they got their aggression early, but putting them against each other doesn't do much to help them get on the same page.

The match turned out to be entertaining, but it was just another example of WWE's wrestlers being so talented in the ring that it nearly makes you forget how mediocre the storytelling can be at times.

Later in the show, she browbeat Zayn by telling him how much she hated everything about him from his attitude to his entrance music.

Despite hating his guts, she turned right around and put him in a match against Rusev with the winner becoming the No. 1 contender for Dolph Ziggler's Intercontinental championship.

If she hated him so much, why did she give him an opportunity to earn a championship match?

I understand that Stephanie McMahon is supposed to be the heel, but if you watch the show without knowing what her role is supposed to be, you'd probably be mightily confused by her motives.

In literally the same segment she can come across as evil and giving.

Goldberg, Brock Lesnar video packages are great

If there is one thing WWE consistently gets right throughout the years is its production, specifically its video packages hyping up its feuds.

With one video package, WWE can turn an unintelligible feud into cohesive story that feels way more epic that it did when watching it in real time. It even made the first Goldberg-Lesnar match at WrestleMania 20 look sort of eventful.

That happened again Monday night when WWE ran a pair of video packages hyping up the Goldberg-Lesnar match for Survivor Series.

In the one dedicated to Goldberg, it talked about his lack of fear when it came to Lesnar and how much it meant to him to be able to wrestle in front of his wife and young son, who have never had the chance to see him perform live.

In Lesnar's video, he was his usual self, which meant he had no filter and cared nothing about Goldberg's heartwarming story.

Lesnar cursed and pleaded with Goldberg's wife and son to not watch Survivor Series, as he is going to show no mercy on their husband/father.

As far as WrestleMania 20, Lesnar said he didn't give two craps about wrestling at that point. He used a lot more colorful language than I just used.

I thought both men came across fantastic in each of these video packages and they made yearn for WWE to do more of these on a regular basis.

If you didn't get excited from watching these videos, something is wrong with you.

Zayn vs. Ziggler for title at Survivor Series

Another match to look forward to at Survivor Series is the Intercontinental championship match between Ziggler and Zayn after the latter defeated Rusev to earn the opportunity Monday night.

Although Zayn's victory came at the expense of Rusev, it set up a potential barnburner between two of WWE's most exciting and beloved wrestlers in Zayn and Ziggler.

While Goldberg versus Lesnar should be a back-alley brawl between two bulls, Zayn versus Ziggler should be serve as a technical masterpiece that is in stark contrast to the main attraction.

Banks, Fox, Shining Stars added to Team Raw

After being off television for at least a month, Fox returned this week and was immediately added to Raw's women's Survivor Series match.

She will join current Raw Women's champion and captain Charlotte, Nia Jax, Bayley and former Raw Women's champion Sasha Banks, who was the last name announced.

Noticeably absent was Brooke despite being on television more recently than Fox. However, she was not completely left out, as she was named an alternate and was even included in the graphic for the match.

I guess she is there to counteract Natalya, who is not officially on Smackdown Live's team, but is serving as the team's coach, which could be fun.

As for The Shining Stars, they were added after defeating The Golden Truth Monday night.

Needless to say, there is a depth issue in Raw's tag team division.
